Parent’s Resources

Welcome to POWER TOTS!

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Family child care in a “home like” setting is the best alternative there is for working parents. It provides a small secure environment for children during the most important time of their development. Family child care offers a home away from home, providing children with “siblings” of all ages, to play, socialize, and learn from. My goal in providing quality child care for your child is to provide:

  • A safe environment
  • A nurturing atmosphere
  • Opportunities for learning and growth

At Power Tots I teach kids about personal values like friendliness, love, sharing, gratitude, fairness, self-discipline because these are main foundational principles in my family’s life.

  • Develop daily positive routines and discipline

My goal is to execute a daily program where kids will feel comfortable and meet new challenges more easily and finally, will feel like at second home. Every parent has different approach to discipline and behavior management. It is important for me and you as parents to meet on the same page and set similar boundaries, what is appropriate and not, what alternatives can be given. I truly believe that in every situation the best methods are to communicate with a child, connect, talk, explain in words without showing our characters. In extreme situations when a child cannot control his behavior he may be given a “time out” to calm down.

  • Community of Parents & Friends
  • Nourish love and peace

We are all humans and unfortunately sometimes can get sick. That is why we reserve 7 personal/sick days per year to recover or continue required trainings. We understand how important for you as family to have a consistent childcare provider that is why will do our best to notify you about such days in advance.

Vacation Closings

We reserve 2 weeks of vacation per year. We post on parent’s board a written notice at least one month in advance.

Regular tuition is applied to our vacations, your vacations, weeks with holidays, our sick/personal days.

Note: It is parents’ responsibility to find a back-up childcare provider during vacations, holidays, sick/personal days when Power Tots daycare is closed.

Withdrawal & Dismissal Policy

At least 30 day notice is required before withdrawing a child from our center. If possible please give us even earlier notice as it will help us a lot to fill open spot, give orientation to a new family and focus on our primary responsibility – high quality childcare.

Account must be paid in full before withdrawing – including your child’s tuition for those 30 days period.

Parent/Guardian will give 30 Day written notice, and 30 Day full payment to terminate your child’s enrollment in child care regardless as to whether your child is present (with the exception of the trial period). If 30 Day notice is not given, you are still financially obligated for 30 Day of child care fees and late payments; 30 days full payment still applies when notice is given in conjunction with provider’s vacation.

Power Tots daycare reserves the right to cancel the enrollment of a child at his/her discretion, or for the following possible reasons:

  • Non-payment or excessive late payments of tuition and fees. Legal action may be taken, all legal fees incurred will be paid by parents.
  • Not observing the rules of home daycare center as outlined in a parent agreement.
  • Child has special needs that we cannot adequately meet with our staffing ratios.
  • Physical and/or verbal abuse of staff or children by parents or child.
  • Expired or non-immunizations and/or physical.
Trial Period
  • There is a trial period of 30 days from the date child care begins. If the child care arrangements is not mutually satisfactory, either party can terminate this agreement with a 1(one) day notice – any tuitions and fees already paid are non-refundable.
  • After the first 30 days of enrollment (Trial Period), a 30 Day written notice from a parent or provider is require to terminate the contract. Immediate discontinuation may occur in cases of misconduct on part of provider, parent or child.
Deposit

A nonrefundable deposit equal to two weeks of childcare costs is due at time of enrollment. However, do not give us the deposit until you have signed the Parent-Provider Contract/Enrollment application and thoroughly read the parent handbook. Your child’s spot is not secured until we have received both the deposit and the signed Parent-Provider Contract/Enrollment application. The deposit will be credited towards the last two weeks of your child’s enrollment.

Diaper Policy

It is parent’s responsibility to provide diapers, wipes and diaper cream for your child. Diaper powder is not allowed. All item are placed in dedicated labeled bin. It is parent’s responsibility (not provider’s) to check and see if your child needs more diapers/wipes. At Power Tots we change diapers frequently and make notes about timing in Daily Report. In case if diaper is completely full 😉 we change it immediately.

Diaper changing area is cleaned and disinfected between each diaper change, child care provider and a child wash hands immediately after each diaper change.

Potty Training

It is essential that the parent and child care provider communicate about the needs of the child and work together to make this developmental milestone positive and successful.

We recommend that when in training, your child be dressed in “user-friendly” clothing. Overalls, zippers, and snaps are difficult for small children to manage – especially in a hurry! While toilet training, parent are to provide lots of underwear for change, pants, socks, and outer clothing.

Bodies & Boundaries

There is a natural curiosity among children with regards to their bodies. When situations arise where we have to speak to children about body parts we use the anatomically correct terms. We also teach children that every person has boundaries and that our bodies are private and should be respected. Parents will be notified if situations occur in the classroom that directly affects their child(ren)

TV Viewing

We put a restriction on television viewing no more than 30 minutes a day. However, we do not carry TV set at home, also don’t give kids personal phones or tablets. In case if we show some content it is primarily for learning purposes like short educational programs for young kids.

Behavior Management

We believe that children soak all information by looking at our actions. That is why we as child care providers are aimed to guide every child with patience, peace, persistence and respect them as individual humans.

We constantly explain and repeat rules of our house, and when a child is old enough to understand restrictions but disobeys for some reasons, we may put the following actions to clarify the situation.

First, is to reinforce kids with positive words and actions when he or she is doing well.

Second, redirect focus to something else, engage into another activity and make it together.

Third, if kid is old enough to understand the rules and “time-out” principle which is usually after 18 months, a temporary “time-out” may be given to help child go through high emotional peak and come back when he or she is ready to act in peace. “Time-out” is never executed by leaving child alone in closed room or building without child care provider’s supervision. We let a child be in another part of same room where other kids are but be separate at that time. “Time-out” is used only in certain situations when children don’t listen to our rules or directions and hurting themselves, other children, staff or property.

Gross Misconduct

If a child is repeatedly hurting themselves, other people or property and his/her behavior is destructive, becomes unsafe and negatively affects other children and staff, then child care provider may make a phone video call to clarify the situation for all parties, give 30 day withdrawal notice that day. In case of severe damage a child may be excluded from daycare with an immediate termination of contract.

Toys

We provide a wide selection of toys and learning materials for each age group and keep everything organized in specific containers and bins. All craft materials and art supplies are only given and used under child care provider’s supervision.

Personal Belongings & Required Supplies

Please provide your child with necessary items like diapers, underwear, diaper cream, wipes, sunscreen, jackets, shoes, t-shirts and pants, bottle of water, swimsuit for water table or summer outdoor games, hat for hot days. As daycare is in our house everyone must have indoor and outdoor shoes. Please do not bring flip flops for outdoor play.

Clothing can become dirty while playing with soil, bubbles, doing art projects, etc, so please remember to check frequently your child’s labeled bin and fill with necessary things.

In cases of vomit, dirty, wet clothing, all items will be placed in sealed plastic bag and put in a bin for parents to take it home. It is not provider’s responsibility to clean/throw away/disinfect child’s clothing or shoes.

Nap Time

Nap time is between 12.30 and 2 pm. Younger infants may take additional nap between 9 and 10 am. Children are not forced to sleep, but we are doing our best to organize safe and cozy nap timing.
